Recognized as a thought leader in the legal industry and as an entrepreneur, Brother builds on his vision decades later. His readiness when the pandemic struck allowed his business to continue to employee his team and help injury victims when other offices closed their doors. The firm has continued to thrive and expand under his leadership, largely due to his willingness to support and invest in the people he depends on. In spring of 2024, the “Backyard” opened at the Norfolk office. This expansive space boasts a Zen-like atmosphere that employees can utilize to break from the standard office environment.
Personal Injury Cases Require a Personal Touch
When Brother Rutter joined the firm, he brought with him a new vision how we do business. He wanted to change the way injury law was practiced. Brother wanted a firm that focused solely on the client, not on numbers. Team members who have been with the firm since his father’s time say Brother brought an energy in.
“You knew he was different, and you knew this was going to be a different kind of firm,” said Tedi Chiara, Prelitigation Manager.

When talking about the future, Brother looks to his family once again. His sons, Carter and Austin Rutter, currently in law school at his alma mater, will be joining the firm next year. The three Rutters will drive the Rutter Mills into the future, bound by the principles born in the first generation of “legal eagles” over 65 years ago.
